Frequently Asked Questions

Is it necessary for my child to have a diagnosis of autism to attend?
No. Our approach can be effective with any child regardless of identified disability. Although most of our children have an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis, others are not formally diagnosed, and some have other developmental disabilities.

What is the age range of children who attend Bluegrass Center for Autism?
A child may start our program at the age of three and may continue with our program until they are 21 years old.

Is financial aid available?
Bluegrass Center for Autism does not offer financial aid, however we do accept insurance for certain families who have insurance that covers ABA Therapy. Please inquire about insurance assistance during the enrollment process.

Can outside therapists visit my child during the day?
We welcome collaboration with outside therapists who see our children and they may visit during the day. We ask that any outside therapists contact the office and the Lead Instructor one full week prior to visiting to coordinate schedules.

Does the center follow a traditional “school” schedule?
We attempt to schedule our breaks throughout each year to occur in-sync with the JCPS school calendar.

What is the ratio of staff to children?
We provide a 1:1 learner-instructor ratio for most of our instruction time. When curriculum calls for group instruction, our learner-instructor ratio remains small, on average of 3:1.

Do I need to pack a lunch for my child each day?
Yes, with the numerous restrictive diets our learners have, we cannot provide lunch on a daily basis, therefore a packed lunch is required daily.

Is BCA a year-round program?
Yes, BCA offers a “Regular Session” which runs from August through May and an optional “Summer Session” which runs June through July. Our “Summer Session” is optional, however we strongly encourage our learners to enroll in our Summer Session in order to keep up with our programming throughout the whole year. BCA attempts to build in a two week break between sessions each year.

Do the Learners receive any “free-time” throughout the day?
Yes, our Kosair Charities East Campus (ages 3-11) has an outdoor playground that is utilized daily (weather permitting), and our Mid City Campus (ages 12-21) has a fitness room to allow our learners basic exercise as well as built in time to interact socially with peers.

What are BCA’s hour of operations?
Both campuses operate Monday – Friday from 8:45am – 3:30pm (each Friday is shortened to 8:45am – 1:30pm for BCA Staff Development). We do offer Before and Aftercare for families that need additional time.
